Taste Sensation

"Tell me something true,” she said
as if my tongue
were Pinocchio’s nose
and I had just lied my way
into her pants.

“You taste of violets,” I said
“Musky in autumn as the leaves fade
and the wind holds the scent of snow.”

It was a lie, of course;
she tasted of blood
as they always do.
